What Makes Our Candles Different

Let's begin by defining the characteristics of our candles. Our candles are made ethically in small batches using environmentally friendly materials and packaging. Our candles are cruelty-free, vegan, and made without the use of parabens, phthalates or petroleum components. We also use 100% soy wax which is sourced from sustainable plants within the USA. But what exactly is soy and why is it important?

Soy wax originates from soybeans (shocking isn't it?). They accomplish this by taking clean cracked, cracked soybeans, and then rolling them into pieces. After that, the oil can be extracted and hydrogenated. As a bonus, the leftover flakes are able to be used for animal feed! The process alters the melting temperature making it solid at room temperature and ideal for candles. If being 100% natural, renewable, biodegradable, and vegan were not enough, soy wax typically has the longest burning time and has no indoor air pollution.

What is the other kind of wax? There are three other waxes commonly used in candles. These include paraffin wax, beeswax, and coconut wax. Let's discuss them. Paraffin has been, arguably the most widely used wax for candles especially fragranced candles, as it is a wonderful scent throw. What is the reason why increasing numbers of companies switching to alternate waxes? It's because it's not renewable! Paraffin wax comes from coal, petroleum, or oil, and is a carcinogen! We care about the planet, and our customer's health we are here Brand & Iron, so renewable, sustainable and ethically sourced products are a must.

Beeswax is an extremely popular organically sourced wax that performs very well for candles in general. Be aware that beeswax comes with a strong natural scent, that doesn't blend well when mixed with different scents. And, most importantly, beeswax is made from bees (obviously) and is an organic candle company that makes it entirely out of the question.

The final thing to consider lastly, there is that coconut is a wax. In addition to the price tag, it's challenging to get genuinely pure coconut wax. This is due to how soft coconut wax is. Due to its very low melting temperature, the majority of coconut waxes blend which includes one of the mentioned waxes. This isn't a problem because of insufficient transparency by manufacturers and the jargon they employ, it's almost impossible to discern exactly what is in the mix, and even whether they're mixed at all in the first place. We're committed to providing an organic sustainable, vegan, renewable and sustainable candle, which is why we use soy wax.

We don't stop at using soy-based wax to make the most sustainable and safe candle. We also use a lead-free and zinc-free cotton wick that is a non-toxic wick and easy to use, and requires less care than an wick made of wood. What else makes our candles different? Our commitment to our beliefs extends down to our packaging. That's right; the packing peanuts we use are also biodegradable. in fact, all of our packing is recyclable. We also love to encourage clients to candles vancouver use or recycle their candle vessels.
